Motivation. Pt 1.

Let’s talk motivation, what is your motivation?
Is it a holiday, a dress, a small human constantly hanging off of you?
Maybe you’ve been to see your doctor and they’ve told you “Lose weight, move more and you won’t get diabetes”…
Whatever your motivation is, it’s important, it dictates how your life unfolds from here.
Question though, on a scale of 1-10, how motivated are you feeling right now?Its dark, cold and wet outside. Christmas is fast approaching, and its littering all the aisles at your supermarket… Why, oh why, start an exercise regime or change your eating habits now? I mean, it’ll all be undone in the next couple of month’s right?Well, to be honest with you, to some degree I agree. I don’t think now is the time to be deliberately withholding calories, all that’s going to result in is resentment, that everyone else is having fun and enjoying themselves but you aren’t.
This is not a good place to start any new habit- actively hating it.
So how about rather than your usual, ‘all-or-nothing’, ‘do or die’ approach you allow yourself to enjoy Christmas and New Years, and, the best bit is, you can surreptitiously get a new habit under the radar at the same time, seriously. Now, just hear me out…try something new, it doesn’t need to be big, just novel; join an exercise class even if its just once a week, its gets you out of the habit of sitting down and vegetating in front of the TV that day. Or go for a walk around the park, 30 minutes twice a week. Or every morning when you get up hold a plank for thirty seconds. Just make a promise to yourself to stick with whichever little change you want to make until Christmas- no longer. I mean Christmas is less than 6 weeks away, you can commit for that long right??
This will not only benefit your physical fitness it’ll also positively impact your mental health. Quite aside from the physical benefits of any form of exercise, from a psychological point of view you now know that you can commit to something and stick with it- without feeling like you’re in a constant state of deprivation.
And, if you’re wondering why I’ve set you this challenge >>>insert motivation reason here<<<
